What to Expect from Samsung Galaxy S5

When Samsung launched the Galaxy S4, this past Spring, they certainly left room for future upgrades and improvements for their next clone. Just like Apple produces a clone of the same phone and makes a few changes here and a few changes there, Samsung is on the bandwagon and is again ready to release the Galaxy S5.  The Galaxy S5 will feature a stronger and more stable designed frame as well as improved performance.

1. 64 bit processing like Apple:-

Samsung has mentioned they are working on incorporating a 64-bit processor, just like Apple’s 5S, but its not clear yet whether it will be part of  the S5 or the next series. If Samsung wants their S5 to compete with Apple’s 5S, they will need to incorporate the 64-bit processing technology.

2. Sturdy and aluminum structure:-

Samsung will be moving on up from their classic plastic frame structure to a slick fully aluminum chassis. Hopefully this frame will make it more durable to prevent  LCDs from  cracking and worth the premium price. Also, ETNews, a Korean news outlet reported that the phone will be dust and waterproof.

3. Camera enhancements:-

The 16MP camera will also be improved by using the ISOCELL technology which helps with color reproduction and produces more crisp low-light photography. In previous smartphone camera tests, the galaxy series has ranked low in the low light  category, so this will be a beneficial improvement. Also, TechRadar has reported that the S5’s camera sensor will have a boost in megapixel count to 16.

4. Google’s OS:-

Google’s latest Android OS the Android 4.4 KitKat will most definitely be on the Galaxy S5. The Android 4.4 kitkat will improve performance by making multitasking faster,  and even a more efficient contacts app, as well as the home screen will allow voice searches by simply saying “Ok, Google.”

5. Early Release Date:-

When Apple released their 5c and 5s iphones in September, it dominated the cellphone market and Samsung’s flagship cell phone the Galaxy S4 has been left behind in sales. It’s been rumored that the Galaxy S5 will be on the market either in January or february of this coming year. The early release date for the Galaxy S5 is due to falling sales of the S4.

These new features and upgrades for the Galaxy S5 will help Samsung beat Apple’s Iphone sales and make it the best phone on the market. Android users will have a reason to celebrate this coming New Year with the release of this very smart handheld computer.

How to Prevent Cell Phone Damage

The latest smart phones are sleek and fancy and are a portable computer in the palm of your hands, all these great things aside, you have a fragile slippery and expensive phone that keeps falling out of your hands. So far the slipperiest phone I’ve come across is the iPhone 5c and Samsung Galaxy s3 and s4 are a close 2nd. The 5c is polished with a shiny lacquered coating, Which makes the device very slippery. The 5c is just the 5 with a paint job, it’s really not an upgrade but actually a downgrade due to the slippery factor and plastic coating.

The best way to prevent a cracked cell phone is to invest in protection. LCD repairs are not cheap especially for the latest cell phones on the market.

Don’t be fooled by the cute and stylized cell phone cases that are flimsy and sold for $5 to $15. These cases usually tend to be designed just for accessorizing your phone and not protecting it from hard impact falls. Most people tend to buy them because they are cheap and add style and they forget that it doesn’t do anything to protect the cell phone. They only help with preventing scratches and scuffs. The best cases that keep your phone alive even from the biggest fall on a hard surface are the sturdy cases that cover all four corners.

If you want to avoid repairing or replacing your cell phones LCD screen, power button, microphone, motherboard, battery, or charging port, then you will want to invest in a quality case that costs between $30 to $75. Shop for a cell phone case by choosing a cell phone case company, they have invested in research to best design a case for optimum protection. Some of these companies include: Belkin, Speck, Trident, Tuff-Luv, Case-Mate, Ballistic, and Life Proof Case. These companies have the top of line in cell phone cases, providing durability, style, and multiple layers of protection.

If you tend to be very clumsy and everything slips through your fingers, then we recommend the Life Proof Case which has been tested to drop from 6 feet and is waterproof up to 2 meters. This case was created to be shockproof, dirtproof and snowproof. The CEO of the company stated that they spent 2 million in developing this cell phone case that protects from all natural disasters mentioned above.

Cosmetic damages such as scuffed and scratched screens from regular use can be prevented by a screen protector. This is an easy preventative and cheap step to take so your cell phones screen stays brand new. Cell Phones have a big price tag, save yourself time and money by protecting your phones with a case. In the end the cost of the cell phone case is cheaper than a cell phone repair.

Heroes and Geeks in Los Angeles specializes in cell phone repair, in everything from a cracked LCD replacement to a broken microphone replacement. We make cell phone repairs hassle free and affordable. If you won’t follow the preventative measure of using a tough cell phone case, then you might eventually need to repair your phone with us, fortunately you and your phone will be in good hands.

Things to Consider before Buying a Laptop

Laptops used to be heavy and expensive. A couple of thousands of dollars bought you a small screen with a chunky keyboard and a hard drive measured in mega bytes, not even giga bytes. Fortunately, the modern laptops are entirely different brutes that are faster, lighter in weight, cost effective and more versatile than ever. The wide variety available in laptops these days makes it a bit difficult for everyone to choose the right one.  The many options available include ultra light high end laptops such as Mac book air, very good quality game cards for gaming freaks, or laptops with very fast processors for the video editors and multitaskers. There are number of factors that should be taken into consideration before buying any laptop and some of them are mentioned in brief below.

  • CPU Processor – Unless you are one of those who need to run intensive and threaded applications on daily basis, you don’t require a quad core processor and will get your work done with a dual core CPU processor easily.
  • Voltage – For highly mobile users who spend most of their time and days stretching away from office and other outlets, it is recommended to get a low voltage processors.  This will lower your computing performance, but you will gain the benefit of a long battery and being wireless.
  • Keyboard/touchpad– Make sure to check the keypad of the laptop before purchasing. The keys could be cramped so make sure you find one you are comfortable with, try out the touchpad and mouse buttons to ensure you like how they feel.
  • Weight/Size- Make sure to purchase a light weighted laptop which you can carry on daily basis and commute easily. Unless you are looking to use the laptop for entertainment purposes, then you would want a large screen size.
  • Audio-Always check out the laptop’s audio system before purchasing, especially with entertainment minded desktop replacements featuring better and bigger sound.
  • Pixel Resolution– Always look for the good quality HD and don’t even think about owning a laptop that is unable to deliver 1080p video. High definition video on even the biggest size laptops looks great at 720 pixel resolution.
  • Graphics Card– For gaming applications, graphics matter a lot. And with gaming laptops and applications, you can spend more on the GPU rather than CPU.

These days, every person looks for the best quality and performance laptop.  Before purchasing a random laptop, know the reason you are buying it, is it for the purpose of entertainment, school/work, or for simply browsing the web. This will inform you and guide you to the right laptop for your needs. You can search online and research more about the specifications, size, positives and negatives of different brands of laptops and finally take a decision to buy one that best suits your need and budgetary constraints.

Where to Repair Cracked iPhone Screen in Los Angeles

Our cell phones are a huge part of our life, they make communicating so easy, seamless and fun. Smart phones as the name mentions are really smart and are a small computer in your hands. These gadgets which the human race lived without for thousands of years, ironically make life hard to live without.  When your cell phone breaks or has a cracked screen it is almost useless and with our close attachment to our phones, we want them fixed as soon as possible.

iPhones are the most expensive smartphones on the market and result in damages as other phones on the market. Luckily, you have options on where to repair your cracked iPhone screens. There are several ways you can go about repairing your iPhone which is the most expensive and difficult cell phone to repair, just like other apple products are.

Your first option, that is if you decided to purchase it from Apple Care. The Apple Care package is only $100 and comes with 2 extra years of warranty as well as accidental damage coverage. As good as these sounds, there is a fine print. First of all, this package deal can only be purchased after your phone has been inspected by Apple to ensure there was no previous damage and the phone has not be altered. Secondly, the service is limited to only two repairs per the phones lifespan. Also, Apple charges for this service, a $49 charge per accidental damage, so if you break your iPhone screen twice, you will have used up all the accidental repair service.

Another thing about the Apple plan is that all the phones are refurbished, so if your screen is broken they swap the refurbished phone for yours.

Second option is to have Apple repair your broken screen, or actually replace it, since I mentioned above that Apple replaces your broken phones with refurbished ones. This isn’t such a great deal since Apple prices are well, pricey, but you will have a quality refurbished phone in the end. When you go to Apple to replace your broken phone, prices will range from $180 at the least to $300 at the most in order of old phone being the iPhone 4 to new iPhone 5. These costs are quite expensive, considering its just for an a screen replacement, but that’s what happens when you buy luxury items.

The 3rd option is to use a third party like a cell phone or computer repair store. This is the best option for replacing your iPhone screen because it is the cheapest. Although repair cost for the iPhone 5 will still be pricey due to being new on the market, the replacement parts are still scarce. Heroes and Geeks Computer Repairs in Los Angeles offers affordable iphone screen repairs. Heroes and Geeks repairs Cracked/Broken Front Glass/LCD Screen Replacement at the following prices: iPhone 5 – $179.99, 4S – $99.99, iPhone 4 – $99.99 and the older iPhones respectively lower. Compared to Apple’s refurbished price, these prices are a whole lot of savings to you.

Keep in mind these few tips when searching for a iPhone repair store:

  • Find a local repair store, so you don’t have to wait for the mail to ship it and it supports local business.
  • Shop around for the best price, there is lots of competition.
  • If you want to save more money, ask the repair shop if they have 3rd party parts, which tend to be half off the authentic Apple parts.

Of course there is always the do it yourself option, but I really don’t recommend this unless you are a techie geek. iPhones, and other Apple computer replacements are the most difficult gadgets to repair. Just to replace the iphone screen of iPhone 5, it takes a trained professional over 1 hour. The phone has over 50 micro sized screws alone. This is probably why Apple replaces your broken phone with a refurbished one instead of repairing it in-house. The labor cost would be too high to repair it in-store and so they collect all the broken iPhones, and ship them to China for practically free labor and then they ship the repaired phones back to the stores and sell them refurbished-the house always wins.

Computer Systems Repair, Cleaning and Maintenance

Computer cleaning and maintenance is a key preventative measure to avoid computer repairs. Preventive cleaning and maintenance assists in avoiding overheating, lock-ups, accidental crashes and data loss and will save money and effort in the long run. Accumulated dust and grime can easily spread germs from one user to the next. The lint, dirt, carpet fibers, dust and smoke particles settles on the computer components and can cause damage if not regularly cleaned.

To avoid hardware failure, its important to keep the fans dust  free. When the fan is clogged up it won’t run properly and the purpose of cooling the computer down will be lost and can cause overheating problems. It is always recommended to at least clean your computers insides twice a year. Though, the cleaning also depends on the environment and accumulation of grime and dust and accordingly the cleaning should be performed frequently. Although, cleaning the internal part of the computer is doable by the average computer user, its not recommended and should be done by a computer repair professional who knows the ins and outs of a computer.  Its a high possibility they can cause harm and accidentally shift the drives, cords, and rams causing a computer problem.

For conducting a complete system clean up, it is mandatory to remove all the external electrical cords and cables and clean the power supply. In fact, before cleaning process you can also wear an anti static wrist strip to decrease and transfer static electricity from your body to computer. For removing dirt, food particles, dust and hair from keyboards and the fan exhaust, it is safe to use a small vacuum cleaner or a air pressure duster. These cleaners create static electricity that could be dangerous for the internal components of the computer so make sure not to get too close with them as it can affect in loosening cable connections.

Cloths that are used to clean eye glasses and lenses could be used to clean monitors and screens and make sure not to use papers and paper towels or any old rag to clean any of the delicate surfaces. Don’t apply any cleaning solutions directly in touch with computer components. You can also use artistic brushes to clean those areas where it is difficult to reach certain places. For external surfaces and for computer case, you can use any of the household cleaner to clean and wipe it.

Overheating is one of the biggest issues in most of the computer systems so make sure to take out the battery before cleaning a laptop or for a standalone computer, remove all the plug-ins and chords. The major causes of such problems are dirt or dead exhaust fans or even the environment itself. Make use of a cotton swab as well as an air duster to clean and remove unwanted particles from the vent cavities.

In addition, users should be serious and cautious about the cleaning and maintenance of their computer at regular intervals for achieving a productive computer. Preventive maintenance not only helps to make it look clean and new but helps it stay cool, and efficient. For external computer surfaces, using antibacterial wipes will help kill germs.  Regular cleaning of your computer parts and cell phones too, which are the most touched items but most neglected when it comes to cleaning,  will prevent bacteria spreading and avoid illness. Keep these maintenance tips in mind to avoid a computer problem in the future.
